Project MICRO GRANT: In small groups, students develop a concept for a new micro financial grant to benefit individuals or organizations in and around Houghton, NY. They proceed to solicit proposals and funding, award the grant, and publicize the results - all at a website they have designed and built. http://webcomm232.com/microgrants/

Public Studio is a course about making art that is civically, socially, politically, or otherwise publicly engaged - both in content and context. We will critically examine contemporary public art practices - from monumental outdoor sculpture in 1980's New York to present day community gardening projects in San Francisco - as we develop individual and collaborative, cross-disciplinary projects, for and about the specific time and place in which we live. Course methods include reading discussions, collaborative research, field trips, studio projects, and a final public project or presentation. http://public-studio.org/

Theory Thursdays is an art and critical theory reading group co-organized by the Art Guild at Houghton College and Ryan Thompson (Assistant professor of Art and Communication). http://theorythursdays.tumblr.com/
